Online Kirtan Camp: The Ocean of Bhakti with Jai Uttal combines 8 online modules (or episodes as we like to call them), live online group classes, as well as access to special bonus rhythm, voice and harmonium practice videos.
To practice the ancient yoga of devotional chanting all you really need is your tender heart, your natural voice and the willingness to explore the inner realms of deep feeling. As we repeat the names of the Gods & Goddesses with melody and cadence we open ourselves to the very real and ever present flow of divine grace.
In Jai's Kirtan Camp, you will gain tools to enhance your personal practice and transform your kirtan sadhana into an artful and inspired soul expression.

Jai has been leading Kirtans worldwide for close to 50 years, creating a safe environment for people to open their hearts and voices. No previous experience is needed. This is an exploration and expression of the heart and the spirit.

With this course, you’ll learn how to:

Episode 1
OPENING THE GATES
May we follow in the footsteps of Bhaktas from time immemorial who have begged Spirit to open Her/His gates and allow us to enter the realm of divine love. This episode includes:

- Invocation & welcome
- Ganesha Sharanam tutorials on guitar and harmonium
- Introduction to Ganesha Sharanam sargam
We all know how easy it is to lose touch with that precious jewel within, but through the practices of Bhakti, particularly the singing of mantras, we can nurture the return path home.
EPISODE 2
THE REALM OF DIVINE LOVE
"Practice and wait for Grace..." ~Sri Siddhi Ma. Bhakti Yoga is the expression of the soul's deepest longing to connect with God. This episode includes:
- 4 Lessons
- Kirwani Alap and Guru Stotram Singing
- Guru Stotram Harmonium Tutorial
- Guru Stotram Guitar Tutorial
Kirwani is a midnight Raag reminiscent of the western harmonic minor scale.
EPISODE 3
BHAKTI SADHANA
Goddess Saraswati has been worshiped before the advent of time.
It is She who is the source of the waters of inspiration and purification, and the waters that nourish the intuitive river within the heart.
This episode includes:

- Jai Sri Sarasvati & Jihva Bandha with Nubia
The anguish of separation and the ecstasy of being fully connected in love can sometimes be felt simultaneously in the churning waters of our hearts.
EPISODE 4
THE JOY OF JAPA
In Bhakti we don’t do our japa to attain anything. Rather, we do our practices as an offering and in turn they can help us stay a bit more open to, and in service of, the grace that is ever flowing and always present. 💓 This episode includes:

- Om Namah Shivaya Japa
- Introductio to Ashavari Raga
- Sri Ram Kirtan
Each Raga has, inherent in it, different moods and emotions. Sometimes, when performed by a great maestro, the most subtle variation of a phrase or microtone can elicit a huge wave of feeling.
Episode 5
DRINKING FROM THE WELL
We’ve all had a taste of the nectar of devotion; otherwise we wouldn’t be here! Let us add more light and passion to our practice and drink deeper from the well of grace. This episode includes:

- Discovering Vrindavan
- Introduction to Raag Bhimplasi
- Learn to Maha Mantra (Plus guitar and harmonium tutorial)
It's about finding the most vulnerable place inside ourselves and singing from that place. Then, whatever comes, comes. Who knows what will happen?
EPISODE 6
BHAKTI & BHAVA
Maharajji once said: “The only thing that is important is how much you love God.” And when he was asked: “What is the best form to worship God?”, he answered: “Every form!”. This episode includes:

- Learn Gopala Lullaby (Harmonium, Guitar or voice alone!)
- Bhakti poems with Nubia
Very often I often ask myself: What is bhakti? What is devotion? And each time this question arises, I have to explore deeper within to seek a new and more authentic response.

THE SHELTER OF MA
We bow to She, who creates, preserves and destroys the universes. This episode includes:

MAHARAJJI'S UNIVERSAL LOVE
After Maharajji left his body, Siddhi Ma cared for his devotees like a true Mother. Her being was always radiant and her heart was a doorway into Maharajji’s universal love. This episode includes:
- 6 Lessons
- Story time with Jai: Stories of Sri Siddhi Ma and Sri Ramakrishna
- Learn Kali Bolo Kirtan (Harmonium, Guitar or voice alone!)
- Sargam practice for Kali Bolo

As we practice, our relationship to the mantras and the deities gets deeper and deeper. It is important to be authentic in our singing and to express what we are feeling in each new moment. Kirtan is like an oil rig, digging into the vast well of feelings, vulnerabilities, wounds and dreams and joy. As we slowly develop the art of chanting we become more able to reach those places of openness and connection.

In Bhakti we don't usually think of what we can take - our focus is more often on what we can give. That being said, how can we give fully when our vessel feels empty? The hope is that each and every participant in Level 1(+) Online Kirtan Camp will leave with a renewed sense of presence in their lives; with the heart fire of longing fully ablaze; with a connection to a sweet new community of friends and Bhaktas; and filled with equal measures of joy, peace and hope. And, perhaps most important, new insight into the practices that nourish and nurture the seed of love.
It is something I will cherish and never forget. Online Kirtan Camp with Jai was a wonderful experience. It helped me to deepen my Kirtan practice and inspired me to use my own voice to share these beautiful prayers with the world. Deep bows Jai for all you have done to pave the way for so many!
